Plum-Inspired Poetry

I bought some gorgeous plums at the "farmer's market" (I put that in quotes because our local outdoor market has produce year round and things that are definitely not in season, like these plums) and put them in a pretty blue dish. The photo doesn't give the rich colors justice, but the image reminded me of one of my favorite poems. I did have the plums on the table, but we are inundated with fruit flies right now due to the composter being right next to the back door and bucket (with lid) under the sink, so they are safe (and wonderfully cold) in the fridge.

This is Just to Say
by William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast.
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold.

Oh, I do love the original poem, and have since I first read it in 9th grade English class.

Clearly, my homage was a pale imitation. :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog; it's always nice to meet a new (to me) SITSta!

Cheers!
