Although I haven't shared my political leanings on this blog, I felt compelled to post on last night's election. I'm relieved that Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States. There's something about having a president who is closer to my generation that really makes me hopeful for the future of this country. I did not want yet another old white man in office, despite McCain's qualifications. Hopefully Obama brings a breath of fresh air to this ailing country.
The morning news shows are on in the background right now, and I'm getting really annoyed at their avoidance of any real issues, like what this historic election means for the country. All I keep hearing is "This is the new Camelot" and comparing Michelle Obama to Jackie Kennedy. I know I'm probably too young, but why does everything that is politically "good" get compared to the Kennedys? It's like they think that time in US history was perfect, but the things you hear about JFK are far from it. Let's just focus on the future, and stop comparing everything to the idealized 50s and 60s.
No wonder I rarely watch these fluff shows in the mornings.
