New Year, New You Giveaway

New Year's Day is a great chance to begin again. I put away the holiday decorations, took the tree down, swept up the evergreen needles from the corners of the living room, and have started reorganizing things around the house. I've even organized and backed up the files on my computer, which I've been meaning to do for months. I also carved out a little play area for SoJo where the Christmas tree was.
I tend not to make New Year's resolutions because I make them all year round (and break them all year round too). My main goals are always in rotation--greener living, healthier eating and exercise habits, simplifying my life. But I would like to add more craft time to the mix. My plan for a birthday present to myself in April is to move SoJo into our guest room and reclaim the nursery for my studio. I want this year to be the start of my own business, whether it be knitting, sewing, or selling crafts in general. I have my name and business cards already, it's just a matter of getting together some decent inventory.

To inspire some changes in your lives, I've decided to compile a few items to offer as a New Year, New You giveaway of sorts. It's a mix of books, an organic, reusable shopping bag, a sample of Soap Nuts natural laundry detergent, and a few other things that represent topics that I work on improving in myself.
The books are New Day Revolution: How to Save the World in 24 Hours, a great green read which is signed by the authors Sam Davidson and Stephen Moseley, and Living Simply: Choosing Less in a World of More by Joanne Heim (also signed by the author), which is a very down-to-earth inspiration for simplifying your life. I'm including a beautiful handmade blank journal from Small Meadow Press with an inspirational quote from Gandhi on the cover. It reads "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Quite fitting for the new year.
It would be great for keeping track of some of the changes you make in your life this year. Cue Bowie---Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!

I'll probably throw in some other goodies too to help you start living greener and simplifying your life. Kind of an oxymoron, huh, giving you more stuff to simplify your life. Anyway, I'm not publicizing this giveaway like I normally do. It's just for my regular readers and bloggy pals, or anyone who just happens to stop by. I'll be mailing it out myself, and am allowing Canadians to enter as well.

To enter, leave a comment here with something you'd like to change or improve in your life for 2009. The giveaway will end on Saturday January 10th. You can get a second entry for blogging about this too. Good luck and Happy New Year!

  1. A fresh start to 2009 is a wonderful idea. This year I'm planning on putting more effort and thought into being a better friend. Sometimes a month or longer passes before I talk to a friend that moved out to Michigan a few years back. When she lived in Washington we talked almost daily...

  13. I try not to make too many resolutions because I tend to not keep them all. This year I have a few and am going to try really hard to keep them.

I need to be more organized so that is a resolution I made.

I feel I am a sorta thrifty person but feel I can do much better so that is a resolution I made.

Also, I made a resolution to get the things accomplished with my blog that I've wanted to do since I started it.

  15. For 09--I would love to just be nicer. I shamefully find myself with sometimes VERY low tolerance with people. I should change this!

  16. For the new year I will be simplifying my life by tearing my house apart... lol. Now that's an oxymoron too I think... but my house was built in 1918 and hasn't been updated in 30 years. So the carpets will come up and be replaced, paint all around, the patio will be redone. Thank goodness the roof was replaced last year!

    Great contest. Thanks!

  17. This may be my favourite giveaway and it does not include Twisted Silver, which says a lot about just how wonderful this giveaway is!! I have always liked ringing in the New Year, as to me, it represents a fresh start. I personally need to work on how I view myself. That in and of itself is going to take a long time, but with it I believe the changes that come with me being more accepting of myself, flaws included, will help me to become a better wife, friend, mother, sister, and daughter. Whew! I have my work cut out for me.

If you happen to know of any really, really good books I could look up n learning to love myself (there are some scary ones out there), please let me know. Seriously. I am 39, it is going to take a lot to change my opinion of myself.

Please excuses y excessive use of commas.

Thanks for the wonderful chance at this awesome giveaway! Honestly, I would use everything there and more. As a family we are striving to be as earth conscious as possible.

  18. Woo Hoo Canadians can enter! Thanks!!

I think what I want to accomplish in my "green" journey this year is to find a laundry product that is natural and that works (& just maybe doesn't cost an arm and a leg)

In my personal life, I want to be more positive and live even a more simple life than I do now. I'm also trying to connect with my father's biological family back in England, which is proving to be very difficult; but who knows what could happen!

    Thanks for a great giveaway.

  24. This is kind of a "general" change, rather than specifics, but I really want to be more green. The more I learn about our environment and the trouble we are in for our kids' future the more I want to act now and teach my 3 year old how to be good to our Mother Earth. I've gotten some great ideas from your blog and I want to try to add more Reduce and Reuse to my life! My most recent project: cloth napkins to reduce paper towel use. I use fabric scraps from my sewing stash and so far it is working! The books in the giveaway sound like they good be a great help to me!

  33. Congrats on the new endeavour. Having started my own business last spring I hope the new year brings more resolve to actually give those business cards out!
Coincidentally Jan.10th is my 46th bday and I hope to be reinspired to embrace a little of my younger self. I was frugal, simple, and more " green". While economics certainly was a big part of that , wisdom should bring pride in breaking out of suburban habits. Thanks for a great blog.

  37. This year I am resolving to stop and enjoy every moment that I can with my kids. They grow so fast and knowing that #3 is my last, makes each day seem like the very last one I will ever hold a baby this small, rock my baby to sleep, etc...

  51. I feel like such a mess, I could make a ton of resolutions. One I did make, and think will help with a lot of other issues, is to be more organized in all aspects of my life, from house cleaning to bill paying to auto maintenance. Perhaps I will regain a sense of control and other things will fall into place.

  57. My resolution is to enter more giveaways! After all, you can't win if you don't enter, right? ;)

Actually, my number one resolution is to focus, focus, focus on the at-home job I have in order to bring in the income our family needs, not a small feat with a three-month old here to care for. Once that is accomplished, I, too, would like to find more time to craft (that afghan I started in 2006 for my cousin is tugging at the corners of my conscience, and I want Liliana to have a stocking for Xmas 2009!).

  66. I have reached a period of comfortable stagnation in my life, and I think it's time to shakes things up.
