Clue Me In

I've noticed a lot of bloggers switching to Disqus for their commenting, and am wondering why? To be perfectly frank, I find the step of leaving comments with Disqus is so time consuming, especially that it doesn't save my info for some reason. It also slows down your blogs, at least on my end, even with a high speed connection. So what's the deal? Is it worth it using it? What are the benefits? Honestly, I've neglected leaving comments on some blogs because of this.

Thank you.

I AGREE!

THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN I JUST CLICKED OFF THE SITE BECAUSE OF THAT!
I LOVE BLOGGER(GMAIL) & BEING SIGNED IN IN MY GMAIL ACCOUNT & ZIP'N RIGHT ALONG.

I HAVE HAD SOME SITE USING DISQUS FREEZE MY COMPUTER.
SO PRETTY MUCH UNLESS THEY GOT A PRIZE I CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT..I JUST MOVE ON.
OTHER, HAVE SOME WEIRD STALKING WIDGET THAT FREAK ME OUT TOO.
I MEAN DID YOU SEE THE ONE THAT EVEN SHOWED A GOOGLE EARTH PIC OF A BLOGGERS HOME!
GRANT IT THAT PERSON LEFT SOME RUDE COMMNENTS BUT STILL...STALKING WIDGETS ARE CREEPY!

I still leave comments if people use disqus...but I do prefer the normal blogger comments. I would love to know the reason as well :)

I noticed that many blogs were using it too and after reading up on it thought it would be nice to use so I could interact with my readers. However it's quite annoying and don't always work and so you can't leave messages and enter giveaways etc. So I want to disable it, but can't or I'll lose my valuable comments that was already integrated in their system. If I had known I would not have started to use it.
I am hoping to remember to click it off when I make my posts so that I use my beloved blogger comments form which is pretty darn easy to use! Ugh.

What? Google Earth feature? Scary!

I don't use Disqus...I was thinking of it but it seems to have issues all the time. It doesn't seem worth it!

I so agree! I did sign up not knowing what it was and for 2 weeks now have been trying to remove my account and it won't remove it. Once you do sign up you can't leave any comments on sites that use it unless you sign into Disqus. I just want my account removed.

I agree.

Sometimes when I'm in a hurry I don't have the patience to deal with Disqus so I just click off.

I agree although I still leave comments as a guest on blogs using Disqus. After what I read here in a comment from one of your readers, I'm glad I never signed up for a Disqus account. Still, Disqus makes me feel like an intrusive outsider when leaving a comment as an unregistered guest.

I think sometimes if a well respected blogger tries something new, other bloggers emulate it whether it is helpful or not, and it becomes a trend.

First I thought the concept was good but I agree, I don't want to "subscribe" to a comment thread either. Leave me alone already! :P

I despise disqus! It takes forever to load and forever to accept your comment. Blogger comments are so much easier.

Also, you can't click on other commenter's comments to see what blog they came from, etc.

And if the owner of the blog replies to your comment and you reply back, it's posted to the blog. Who wants that?

Yeah yeah yeah ... ;)

Okay I use it. And before people start throwing tomatoes at me {snicker} I'll say the positives.

I have more control over who can comment. Which I find especially helpful for giveaways, the usual trolls so to speak that simply leave "enter me" comments - I can and have blocked their IP addresses completely. Blogger doesn't give me that option.

I like how it looks. How readers can reply to others' comments directly.

I LOVE that I can "whitelist" my regular readers so they never have to wait for comment approval. I wish Blogger allowed that.

Now, unfortunately Disqus has been having a lot of oops'es lately for me. And I don't appreciate them. At first I chalked it up to just a one or two time thing. But after giving it more time, it's become a bit of a pita. Sometimes comments don't go through approved immediately. There are a few hiccups that I've heard of other bloggers dealing with too.

I'm still weighing out the pros and cons personally. Sadly, the cons are catching up to the pros. *sigh*

Though -- @blueviolet, I found a way to bypass my replies being posted to the blog.

I'm with you - to the point where I've stopped commenting on some blogs with it. It's too much of a hassle. Plus...when I enter my url it still doesn't link my name, so they can't come visit my blog unless I actually type my url into the comment. I hate that about it the most.

I had trouble with it freezing up my laptop, too, when trying to leave comments. I've moved on without leaving comments when I wanted to. It has seemed to work better for me in the last week or so, though, and it does remember me when I come back. I do like Blogger better as a commenter, but the blog owner certainly has to decide what is best on their end and go with it.

I use Disqus too - but not for long! My last giveaway with it ends tomorrow and as soon as a winner is pulled, I am going to delete it. I didn't know it made so many people unhappy, and it has become unreliable for me...I have been using the Blogger commenting system for my latest things...I do like it better - I just wish we could see the IP addresses easily - especially for giveaways. Like Erin said above, I really wish I could "whitelist" my regulars on Blogger...that would be wonderful.

So Buh-Bye Disqus!

I have to giggle because I always see all these bells and whistles on sites and think I have missed the boat... only to hear that people are having issues with it and/or hate it.
See it pays to be a little slow... LOL

I'm not a fan of disqus at all. I've commented on other blogs with it, but it's rather annoying. I've also noticed that I have to click that I do NOT want to subscribe to the comments or else I get an email asking me to verify that I do want to. Too messy for me.
