Wordful Wednesday: All Things Merry

My quandry of what to do about the tree and a toddler has been solved. I decided to put up our small tree on a high table, just to be on the safe side.
And frankly, I'm glad I did, since I'm feeling pretty burnt out and didn't have the energy to pull out all the ornaments and decorations. I love that our tree has my favorite ones, rather than a lot of filler.
The nativity set that I love, and is kid-friendly, also scaled back from last year. I didn't put out all the pieces.
Oh, and Mr. Topham Hat isn't part of it. I think someone snuck him into the scene--I just noticed him in the photo as I uploaded it!

And here's the ornament I received from Stacey of Simple Subtleties, for the Blogger's Ornament exchange at Pampering Beki. It's a really cute and well-made snowman "kit", complete with a vial of water, glitter and other snowman-y things. She makes these really amazing metal charms with vintage images, and I'm so happy to have one of her creations on my tree. Here's what I sent her, a felted ornament--one of my signature creations.
Though I miss the drama and smell of a real tree, this will do for this year. I also scaled back on the house decor, but added a little bit of color in the kitchen
There are the felt balls again, which usually are on the big tree. Of course, I dressed up the steps with our stockings and garland.

  10. I love those felt ornaments. So colorful and festive. I agree.. there is something magical about lights. I find myself looking at lights on houses, lights on trees, lights everywhere. Just makes you say, "Ahhhhhh!"

  11. Wow! Kathleen your home is beautiful! I adore all your decorations and I think Sir Topam Hat fits in perfectly (since I no longer have anyone who will do that at my home). Your home looks so inviting and cozy and your felted ornaments, I forgot how lovely they are.

  13. LOL! We have to put ours on a table too!! But we are still having to anchor it to the wall since my bigger toddler, well, lets just say he would find a way to pull it down regardless of how high we put it. I think we are gong to have to forgo the glass/breakable ornaments too. Luckily I have a snowflake theme and a lot of those are wooden. Boy, I feel like I just wrote a post.
Beautiful tree & I love your banister. We did something similar and I was just going to explain... I am so wordy...

  19. I love the way the felt balls look on the little tree. Ever since I read your post about the Christmas tree, I started wondering the same thing. Aiyana was always good about not touch, but Chloe is a little more inquisitive and I starting to wonder how she is going to do with our tree. I have a small one in our family room, on top of a table. All the ornaments are plastic. She already pulled it down, although, she has not touched it since then.

    I love all your decor!

  20. This is beautiful! I love the gorgeous felt balls and the sweet nativity (including its additional guest). I've been considering buying a very small tree, or perhaps making some sort of tree--hey, you wanna do a tute for that!?--and placing it far out of my toddler's unsteady hands. :)

  22. Where did you get the metal tree that has the felt balls on it? Is that originally a Christmas Card Holder? I've been searching and searching for one. I love it. PLEASE tell where you found it.
