GetGlovd This Winter (Giveaway}

Since we're in the midst of what seems like the most extreme winter of my lifetime, it's a perfect time to review some gloves, specifically, Get Glovd's antimicrobial gloves for men, women, and children.
Made of 100% natural, sustainable bamboo fabric, Get Glovd's gloves are soft, stretchy, and most importantly, protect your hands from germs. The mechanically-processed bamboo naturally repels germs, and it's much better on your skin than harsh hand sanitizers. Get Glovd gloves also provide UV protection and they retain their protective properties even after multiple washings.

We tried out a pair of the women's ($19.99) and the children's ($14.99) Get Glovds, with great results.
They kept SoJo's hands warm in the snow, and they were surprisingly easy to get on his hands due to the soft, stretchy material. This is his first pair of gloves (I tend to use mittens) and they stayed on his hands exceptionally well. Mine were quite snug and comfy too, and I like the lime green stripes on them. The gloves would fit most hands, due to their stretchiness, and they also make a Men's glove which is entirely black.

I can't say whether or not they prevented us from getting sick in the past week, but based on the links and info on the Get Glovd website, these gloves do help repel germs. We'll be wearing them throughout the rest of the winter, so we'll see what happens.

For a limited time only, if you buy 2 pair of Get Glovd gloves, you'll receive free shipping within the continental US.

Learned
Not all bamboo fabric is created equally

There are many textile products that claim to be environmentally friendly, anti-bacterial bamboo, when in fact they are actually rayon derived from bamboo.

Why all the confusion? For the answer, we have to start with how this eco-friendly and inherently anti-bacterial bamboo plant is actually processed into fiber, yarn and, ultimately, the textiles you buy.

It’s all about the process
There are two ways of commercially processing the bamboo plant to create yarn and fabric. A mechanical process, creating what is informally called bamboo linen, and a chemical process producing rayon or viscose fabric.

I learned that "Mechanically produced bamboo fabric requires no chemicals, pesticides or fungicides." That makes them particularly kind to the environment and those who work with the fabric.

I learned that these bamboo products are manufactured with the mechanical process, not the chemical process. (I had heard bamboo was treated with harsh chemicals that made it actually an un-eco-friendly material...great to know it's not all bamboo. Now I know what to look for!) :)

Mechanically produced bamboo fabric requires no chemicals, pesticides or fungicides.

Using a process similar to the one that produces linen from flax, bamboo fibers are raked and combed into long strands, preserving its anti-bacterial and anti fungal characteristics.

•Nearly all off-the-shelf hand wipe and liquid hand sanitizer is alcohol based. Excessive use of hand sanitizers can aggravate and irritate existing cuts and scrapes, causing them to take longer to heal and increasing the susceptibility to contagious bacteria and virus.

Increased use of hand sanitizers actually increases the chances of bacteria and virus becoming immune to the biocides (germ killing active ingredient), increasing the risk of virus to our immune systems and eventually rendering the sanitizers pretty useless.
