summer lovin' and garden grub

The summer-like weather here in PA has been causing major bloggers' block for me. I'm stumped about something to post, and I just haven't felt like being online much. We spent much of yesterday in and around water, down at the local creek and then at the university's water fountain, which Soren loves to play in. This photo is from last fall.
My guess is that many of you forgo your online life once the weather becomes too delicious to bear.

Our garden is still faring well, though the pesky town sparrows have been tearing apart my pea plants.
Not sure why they want to perch on and peck them every evening. There aren't even any peas on them yet, though I've spotted some blossoms.
We're drowning in lettuce, despite twice-daily salads.
The swiss chard is doing really well, and we had some last night for dinner.
I rinsed it off, spun it in the salad spinner
I chopped 3 cloves of garlic and sauteed them in a bit of olive oil and a pat of butter. I added some pecans too, toasting them to release the nutty flavor.
Then I added the chard and cooked it until it was slightly wilted. I added a dash of Worcestershire sauce and a splash of wine. Incidentally, I love this stuff!
I never thought I'd be a boxed wine type of gal.

I served the chard with some brown rice and, you guessed it, more salad.
Delicious and really great for you. Eat your greens friends!

Mmm we've been eating a LOT of greens lately. I'll have to give Swiss chard a try though, that is one I've yet to cook with. Looks tasty!

I've never had Swiss Chard, but we've been eating a ton of greens lately otherwise.

Your dinner sounds quite delicious! I'm still figuring out how to buy bottled wine so I won't even admit to what kind has been my favorite...let's just say I don't think I have very refined taste buds! :-)

Enjoy the weather! There's always time for blogging when it rains!

I've been equally unmotivated to make soap, blog, etc. We've been to the pool several times...

I would help you eat your leafy greens!! When can I come over?

Don't worry, I'm in the same position. Once the warm weather hit, my life just skyrocketed! I'm so busy, I'm barely home anymore >.<

It really sounds like your garden is a force in and of itself :)

It looks so yummy!

Sounds and looks so yummy...I was out with some friends and sauteed kale was on the menu. It was amazingly good! And I get the summer blahs thing, although here in Seattle, we are growing moss. Throw it out there for us to ask you some questions!!!

Your garden looks amazing. I just planted mine yesterday! I hope the growing season is long enough for me to reap something.... maybe some baby lettuce if I'm lucky here in NH.

Enjoy your delicious harvest!

I'm so jealous of your lettuce! I can't even grow basil and green onions =)
