Elmer's #BagItForward Program

I nearly died when I recently saw the "Back to School" displays in a local store--I mean, it's July! Though I guess school bells really are not that far away (I can play dumb because I have a 2 year old who won't be going to school this year).

I recently learned that I was chosen to be an Ambassador for Elmer's Bag It Forward program through my participation in Collective Bias (a fabulous group--let me know if you'd like an invite). Along with the other 4 Ambassadors (Beth, Candace, Dawn, and Naomi), 45 Collective Bias bloggers were given $50 to use toward purchasing back to school supplies for children in need, and $50 to use for their own back-to-school purchases. I'll be using the full $100 for charity since we don't have any back to school needs at the moment.

Elmer's is a company that I know pretty well, having taught and made art for a number of years, and we go through their glue sticks like mad at the museum where I work. I also keep one in my stash at all times, because it's so easy to adhere paper together without a mess. It was indispensable for the favors for my sister-in-law's bridal shower.
Another great thing about Elmer's is their Glue Crew program, where they recycle empty glue sticks in partnership with Terracycle (love that place too) and Walmart. One of the biggest gripes I have about art making is that it's often not eco-friendly, but Elmer's is certainly helping to lessen the artistic dent on the environment. Hooray!

As part of the Ambassadorship (is that a word?), I'll be creating some posts about my shopping trip and assembling the Bag It Forward bags, and also some back to school tips and crafty posts. Stay tuned!
And if you'd like to participate in your local community, by all means, do it! I've worked with so many disadvantaged kids as an educator and it really does make a difference. I recall during my work at the museum having kids and teachers get excited when we gave out pencils, since schools often can't afford to keep them in supply. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions!

What a great project! Hmmm... if I give you a link to an eco-craft site I found that has fun ideas and projects, would you consider sending me an invite to Collective Bias? Here's the website:

Some schools in Hawaii started last month! They're on multi-track so they have breaks all-year rd vs one long summer. My son isn't on multi-track, but he starts school next month...

What a great program!
