This weekend there's been a dark cloud hanging over me.  Whether it's the result of the bleak book I'm reading, or just thinking about the situation in Japan, I am a bit troubled by the state of the world.  Lying awake at night, as I'm prone to doing, I find myself thinking about how lucky I am, to live the life I'm living with a healthy child, a comfortable home, food to eat, and great medical care.  So much suffering happens around the world (and even in our backyard) that I regularly remind myself of how good I have it here, despite the failing economy and other American ills.
I can't even imagine how horrifying it would be to evacuate your home with a young child because of radiation, let alone doing it while pregnant.  I worry enough about the ordinary trials that my child faces, like falling off a swing or becoming frustrated with things he can't do, let alone wondering if exposure to deadly radiation will harm or even kill him.

I'm keeping the people of Japan in my heart, since I do believe in the power of prayer and intention. I'm pretty certain you're doing the same.

  1. My heart is heaving for Japan and our world for that matter right now. I'm praying for them especially right now too..

  2. My heart also breaks for the people of Japan...

  3. It's true. We are so lucky. Tragedies like the one in Japan remind me of the many opportunities I have to serve other people, and also remind me of the many good things in my life. I hope I remember this when my life feels hard.

  4. It is something that's hard to wrap my brain around too. I couldn't imagine having to evacuate our home. Last night I recited a prayer with Luv giving thanks for our safety and praying for others. She of course, smiled and nodded and said, "Amen Momma." LOL

  5. I, too, am heartbroken by the stories that we keep hearing from Japan. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan as they struggle with the aftermath of the quake, tsunami, Nuclear power plant issues and cold weather and snow and rain coming soon. Watching the news has become so depressing...

I'm a good listener...comment away!
