Preparing the Big Boy Room

With the upcoming arrival of Soren's sibling this summer, I've been slowly transforming the current play room into a "big boy room" for our nearly 3-year-old dynamo.
Due to living in a 100+ year old house, our home has some quirky features, most obviously that this room adjoins to Soren's current bedroom, which will become the baby's nursery.
I like imagining that these two siblings (most likely brothers) might have the door between the rooms opened at night, and be whispering (er, probably talking loudly) to each other, avoiding sleep.

We're working on painting over that stone grey/purple paint from when the room was a guest bedroom.  There were some leftover paints in the basement, which I mixed together (the sea foam from the living room, and blue from our bedroom) to make a nice soft blue.
We plan on using our tax return for new windows in this room too; the current ones are all broken in some way and are extremely drafty. Once the windows are installed, we'll paint the trim white.

Over the weekend, Chris and I put together some Billy bookshelves from IKEA for S's new room.  Naturally, Soren wanted to help, and we eagerly obliged.  After all, anyone can put together IKEA furniture, right?  Especially since the instructions are mostly visual, and come in a dozen different languages--even toddler-talk, perhaps.
He really enjoyed placing the screws and hammering in the wooden pegs with his hammer.
And much to the Mister's vexation that I'm divulging this, I was the one who put most of the furniture together.  I just love putting together pre-fab things.
(Feel free to ignore my awful hair--it was during the Dirty Hippie experiment)
Fun times I tell you!  Here are the finished shelves below.  The wall decor will be taken down and changed, or moved elsewhere.
Next up, the delivery of the big boy bed on Monday.  Slowly but surely, we're making progress. We still have until July 5th, and of course are looking for any painting volunteers!

I laughed about you doing the bookshelf assembly - last year we bought 5 of those Billy bookshelves. I put them all together by myself, because they would still be in their boxes if I waited for help. I really enjoy putting furniture like that together... i think because it's one of the few tasks I have that is DONE when it is DONE, and I won't have to do it again in a few hours, like the dishes or the housecleaning!

Oh if I were nearby, I'd help in a heartbeat! I love what you've done so far :) Can't wait to see the rest!

Yay! The shelves and paint look great, and you and S look so cute assembling them. I make my hubs do all such work, perhaps because I'm spatially challenged, or perhaps because he loves making and putting things together.

I think you are doing great on the room. It's also nice that you two got to spend some quality time making memories.

It looks great. I love the connecting door. My daughters share a room and bedtime is not as bad as I thought it would be. They talk a little bit and then settle down. Maybe as they get older we will run into more chit chatting.
