Domo Arigato Mr. Roboto

With a robot birthday party looming on the horizon, we've been awash in all things nuts-and-bolts around here.  After multiple viewings of The Iron Giant (a sweet movie, if you can get past the guns and Cold War era fears--it's actually an anti-gun film), Soren has become enamored of robots.
Here's one of his favorite videos, a flashback by Styx from my 80s childhood.  Don't judge--I learned some Japanese from this song. :)
Yesterday Soren, the neighbor kids and I finally made a robot with some cardboard boxes and other items set aside for recycling.  I had a set of MakeDo connectors, a really brilliant invention for holding things like boxes together.  I recall going through lots of masking tape as a kid trying to adhere boxes to each other, with disappointing results.

Soren has been playing with Mr. Roboto all yesterday, despite its gimpy leg (I couldn't find two equally-sized boxes.
Not bad for a mash-up of stuff headed for the trash.  Hope your weekend contains some kind of creativity, with boxes or otherwise.  Have a good one!

Fun robot! Salem's birthday last month was robot themed. I've got some links to printables and some of the ideas we adapted to fit on pinterest:

I agree with Kayla! Sweetest robot ever! I want to dance with that thing. . . in my underpants. (Teehee. TMI. Sorry.)
