Frugal Finds at Bottom Dollar Food

I don't know of anyone in this economy who isn't looking to save some money, particularly in groceries.  We just got a new Bottom Dollar Food store in our area and armed with a gift card, Jude and I set out to find some bargains, specifically for Soren's upcoming birthday party.
I was searching for snacks for the party, but thought I'd check out some of the other bargains that Bottom Dollar Food offers.

There's actually a walk in refrigerator room, stocked with produce, much of which is grown in the US.  That is something that I tend to look for when shopping for fruits and veggies, particularly in bargain stores where much of the items are from overseas.
Much of the produce was priced lower than in our local grocery store.
Sometimes I pick up some frozen veggie burgers or Chik patties, and at just under $3, they are at least a dollar cheaper than at our grocery store.
I picked up some Pure Vanilla extract at a pretty good price--great for birthday cakes.
Breyer's Ice Cream was about a buck cheaper than in our grocery store.
I bought a few of these aluminum pans, some 2 for a dollar, to use at the party for snacks.  It's a robot theme, so the shiny metal look was something I was going for.
There were plenty of party snacks and great prices too, like bags of chips for $.99, snack mixes for $2, and cheese balls for under $5.  Nothing like orange-stained fingers at a birthday party.
I ended up getting 5 bags of chips and party mix, some fruits and veggies, and a half gallon of organic milk for $25. Not bad!

While I wouldn't do all of my grocery shopping at Bottom Dollar Food, since they don't carry a lot of organic foods or have the variety of products one might be used to at the standard grocery stores, they do have some great deals.  I'm sure you'd find at least something you'd normally buy at a discounted price.

Check the Bottom Dollar Food website to see if you have one of these money-saving stores in your area.  Definitely worth the trip!

  1. One of these stores just opened in my neck of the woods as well...I haven't shopped there yet, but I do plan to go and check it out! I have heard there are some great deals! I have Aldi practically in my back yard, so I tend to go there a lot and save tons as well. I like that price of .15 for the cabbage! awesome prices~!

  2. How neat! I've never heard of Dollar Store grocery stores-I don't think we have any where I'm at.

I'll have to keep an eye out for one to come in {hopefully} :)
