Many of my childhood memories are infused with the scent of chocolate, like unwrapping Hershey's Kisses for my mom to use on her Peanut Butter cookies at Christmas, and particularly Halloween when I would pick through my haul looking for Kit Kats.
When I was recently sent a few bags of the new Halloween Kit Kat Orange, I was delighted.
Having a salt tooth is what I think draws me to Kit Kats--somehow they appeal to that crunchy, crackery texture I'm looking for.
Hershey's Boo Blvd. is a seasonal section of their website just for Halloween, where the company shares recipes, crafts and tips for a frightfully fun Halloween.
I thought it might be fun to get a little crafty with the mini Kit Kats and make some simple Halloween treats for some of our friends.
I dug into the art cabinet for black construction paper, scissors, white card stock, a glue stick and crayons.
I cut the black paper to fit around the Kit Kat bar, then folded it around the sides to figure out the measurements I wanted.
Then I flipped the paper over (without the candy bar inside) and on the center panel, drew the body of a skeleton (thanks Intro to Figure Drawing class for burning the human skeleton into my brain).
Then I added a head/skull, drawn on a piece of white card stock, by gluing it to the body.
I folded the paper around the bar and secured it snugly on the back with a piece of tape.
All that's left is to pass them out to a few friends. I added a little orange "Happy Halloween" banner too, as well as a bat and a witch.
If you're feeling ambitious, make some for the whole class--er, have your child make them. They'd be great with full sized Kit Kats too.
WIN IT!
