Easy Listening with Soundfreaq Sound Kick

Music plays an important role in our lives, especially around the holidays.  Certain songs evoke childhood memories for me, like dancing around the living room to my parents' Barbra Streisand Christmas Album (I loved her super-fast version of "Jingle Bells" and often sing it to my giggling boys).

In my own home, I often stream Pandora into our Roku box via the TV, but it's only really listenable in the living room.  I've missed hearing Christmas songs in the kitchen over the years, especially while baking and wrapping gifts (and I find commercial radio during the holidays obnoxious).  This year is different due to the Soundfreaq Sound Kick portable Bluetooth speaker system.
It's a lightweight speaker with great sound for its size, and is wirelessly sync-able to Bluetooth devices like smart phones and tablet computers via any App.  You can even listen to music and watch videos from YouTube with it, which we haven't been able to access via our Roku box.  The quality of the audio is crisp and clear, rivaling our fancy stereo system.
I've been using it to stream wirelessly with my iPhone, iPad and my husband's Android phone and it's worked incredibly well for such a compact device.  It's so easy to pair with your devices too.  It literally took me 1 minute to set it up with my iPhone.

The Sound Kick's side profile is about 3 inches wide when you "pop out" the back.  This enables the speakers to work best and provide stability for the unit.
You charge the Sound Kick's battery (yep, the Sound Kick itself is wireless) and can use it anywhere.  It sits on our kitchen shelf for easy access.  So far, the Sound Kick's charge has been great, bordering on the 7 hours that is advertised with the product.
I like its minimal look.  The buttons on the top provide all you need, from volume control to the ability to change songs.  You can also control your music from your device.

You can even use the Sound Kick to charge your devices, via the USB port.  If for some reason, Bluetooth isn't available, you can still use the Sound Kick with other devices by using the standard 3.5mm headphone jack, which comes in the package.
The Sound Kick has won a number of awards for best portable speaker under $100.  Soundfreaq is releasing a white version for the holidays, which you can preorder on their website.  The Chromatics collection. also being released this month, is gorgeous too.

It comes in other snazzy colors too, with appealing names like Sunset, Ocean and Twilight.

The Sound Kick would make a great gift for the music lover or techie on your Christmas list.  I'm eager to take this with us on a car trip sometime, since our car's outdated stereo system doesn't allow us to sync our devices to it.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Soundfreaq and received a product sample to facilitate my review.

  1. OK...I thought I was the only one who still listened to the original Barbra Streisand Christmas Album. Honestly, it has to be one of the best Christmas albums ever.

    And, the Soundfreaq is amazing!

  2. How neat is that little piece of machinery! I totally agree the holiday season is one that requires music and it's awesome that this speaker helps bring music everywhere you want it to :)

  3. I really want one of these! My computer runs so slowly if I play music on it so I don't usually have it on while I'm working. I love the Bluetooth accessibility, too. No wires to fuss with. I guess you could even take it outside in nice weather... cool.
