For a long time now, I've wanted to make Family Game Night a weekly thing in our house, but so far haven't quite established it yet. My 5 year old likes playing games, but in the after-dinner/bedtime chaos, it's gotten lost in the shuffle.
However we did manage to sneak a game night in last week, when a new Hasbro game, Angry Birds GO! Jenga Pirate Pig Attack, showed up at our door.
My eldest son is a big fan of Angry Birds, so naturally he was excited to test out this game.
And as a highly energetic, physical child, I appreciated that Angry Birds GO! Jenga had an active element to it, rather than just sending pieces around a board. This game crashes, smashes, launches and collapses.
One carefully sets up a pirate ship using bricks, "wood" pieces, flags and Piggies, of course.
Then you launch two cars (one per player) carrying one of the Birds and a King Pig up a ramp and at the ship, trying to know down as many pigs and bricks (and even the ship itself) as you can in one turn.
My son was excited when this happened.
Have I mentioned how much he loves destruction?
Overall, this is a simple and fun game that has gotten as much use as a playset as it has as a game. Our only trouble with it is that it's tricky to set up the boat without having it collapse.
Because it's meant to be destroyed, it's not designed to hold together well, so it takes a lot of finesse to set it up without accidentally toppling it before the game starts. This can be frustrating for a 5 year old (and an adult, like me!). The age recommendation is 8+, but my son enjoyed playing this with a little help from someone older.
But the drama of a car being launched at a row of bricks outweighs the challenges, so we'd give this game a thumbs up. If you're an Angry Birds app purveyor, this game comes with a download of the new Angry Birds GO! game on your mobile platform.

ReplyDeleteThis game reminds me of the Crossbows and Catapults that I played when I was a kid. I know I had a lot of fun with that game and knocking down a castle. I could see where kids would really like this game. Thank you very much for sharing and best of luck getting the Family Game Night going!
